Dr Julia Gog to deliver one of the two LMS Popular Lectures this year
Dr Julia Gog is this year one of the two mathematicians delivering the annual LMS Popular Lectures. She delivered her lecture on Epidemics and viruses: the mathematics of disease in London on 9th July, and will repeat it in Birmingham on Wednesday 24th September.
Dr Julia Gog's research is in the mathematics of infectious diseases. Her current research projects include, among others, models of influenza strain dynamics, in vitro dynamics of Salmonella, and bioinformatic methods to detect RNA signals in viruses. Recent new analysis of 'swine flu' pandemic, the result of her work in collaboration with a team of researchers from University of Cambridge and the US, including Princeton University and National Institutes of Health, has challenged accepted views on how diseases spread.
