Simon Tavaré elected Fellow of Royal Society

Professor Simon Tavaré, who holds his Professorship jointly between DAMTP and the Department of Oncology and who is a Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Research Institute has been elected as one of 44 new Fellows of the Royal Society. Professor Tavaré is an internationally recognised figure in the interface between statistics, probability and biological and medical sciences who has made important contributions to the study of combinatorial stochastic processes, population genetics and statistical bioinformatics. He has carried out important work in the analysis and interpretation of DNA sequence and related genomic data and has pioneered the development of evolutionary genomic approaches for understanding cancer.
