John Barrow awarded Christopher Zeeman Medal

Professor J.D. Barrow

Professor John Barrow of DAMTP has been awarded the Christopher Zeeman Medal for the
Promotion of Mathematics to the Public by the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and the London Mathematical Society (LMS). The award acknowledges Professor Barrow's own work through his many books on mathematics and cosmology, his public lectures and his other activities and also the achievements of the Millenium Mathematics Project (MMP) of which he is Director. The MMP, which is based in DAMTP, has over the last 10 years done a huge amount to develop mathematical interest and ability among school students with activities such as NRICH and the online magazine Plus.

In 2006 the MMP was awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education (the counterpart to the Queen's Award for Industry) honouring 'outstanding achievement and excellence'.
