Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

An exciting opportunity is available for a Post Doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, to work with the Ocean Dynamics group and the Centre for Climate Repair on Marine Biomass Regeneration.
The project is part of a consortium led by the University of Southern California, exploring the effectiveness and impacts of ocean fertilization using laboratory experiments and models.

Duties include testing and fine-tuning biogeochemical models based on data obtained from laboratory experiments and using coupled physics/biogeochemical modelling to explore the effectiveness and impacts of nutrient fertilization in the open ocean.

The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. You must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. You may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Marine Science or a related field and experience in ocean biogeochemical modelling. Experience using OceanBioME.jl and the Julia programming language is highly desired. Informal enquiries should be addressed to Professor John Taylor by email at J.R.Taylor@damtp.cam.ac.uk.
