Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

About Us:

The Centre for Climate Repair (CCR), based in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP), is a multi-disciplinary hub that brings together various departments with the goal to repair the climate through the 3Rs - Reduction of carbon emissions, Removal of greenhouse gases and Refreezing the Arctic. We support PhD studentships and internships in several University departments and are overseen by a University Board as well as an External Research Advisory Board in respect to our research and field trials. Although the Centre is based in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, the Centre for Climate Repair also has strong ties with the Department of Engineering, based in Trumpington Street, therefore some travel to this site will be required.

CCR consists of a small, dedicated team: in addition to this role, the core team overall currently consists of 9 people, several of whom are part-time, plus external contributors. We also have Associates linked to the Centre who may have studentships funded by CCR or who we consult on in their field of expertise. A full list of our team, Post-Docs, PhD Students, Associates and Partners can be found on our website at www.climaterepair.cam.ac.uk

The Role:

Our team is growing rapidly and we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Communications Assistant to help promote the activities and events of the Centre while supporting the Programme Coordinator in the strategic direction of its communications. The post is an interesting and varied job providing events and communications assistance for the Centre and our high-profile activities. Where we host events/activities and/or our presence at external events is required, we may ask the Communications Assistant to accompany the Director and/or Deputy Director so as to document and promote our presence on social media.

The post is full time, but we welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time (e.g. on a job-share basis) or flexible working arrangements.

About you:

The successful applicant will have excellent organisational and communication skills and initiative to support the Centre's communications for our busy and diverse events and activities. They will be flexible and adaptable and able to work effectively with other members of the team. Previous experience in communications or a similar role is essential. Excellent and accurate written English, the ability to prioritise workload across multiple tasks and to meet deadlines together with a high level of attention to detail, are also essential. The post holder will have considerable scope to develop many areas of their work and should enjoy the opportunity to work on their own initiative.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance and may be extended subject to the availability of funding.
