About

The High Reynolds Number Group uses a combination of asymptotic, numerical and experimental methods to investigate natural flow phenomena across a variety of scales  (e.g. ranging from pipe flows in a domestic heating system, through  ocean and atmospheric flows on Earth  to large astrophysical scales such as accretion disks). There is considerable overlap/collaboration with the Waves, Environmental and Industrial Fluid Dynamics, and Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics groups.

PhD Projects

There are always opportunities to join the group by studying for a PhD degree or as a postdoctoral scholar. Open PhD projects for entry in October 2020 are as follows

Project 1 - Coherent structures in Viscoelastic turbulence

Project 2 - Weak wave turbulence and rotating systems

Project 3 - Wave coupling in GFD instabilities
