All participants are very strongly
encouraged to register before Wednesday, 22nd
June. Although we
will do our best to cater for late registrations, we cannot guarantee
participation in the excursion or the conference dinner.
Important: Hotels Santemar and Chiqui are now full. Late participants will need to arrange their own accommodation: This or that websites are a good point to start. Note that there will be no on-site registration. If you haven't yet done so, you should register as soon as possible by Internet. |
By air: Santander Airport, located about five kilometers from the Town Hall, has daily connections with Madrid, London and Barcelona. A flight to and from Madrid takes about 40 minutes, about 60 minutes for Barcelona. Check with your travel agency for further details, alternatively check Iberia Airlines, Ryanair or Spanair. (Note that Ryanair sometimes describes the destination as "Bilbao" but don't worry, the airport is at Santander.)
There are frequent buses (roughly, once every 30 mins) from the airport
to town. Alternatively, you may take a taxi, at a price of 10-15
Euros. Phones:
Radio Taxi: (34) 942 33 33 33
Tele Taxi : (34) 942 36 91 91
A less convenient possibility is to fly to the Bilbao Airport, because of the problem of getting from Bilbao to Santander. Unless you are willing to fork out 100 Euros on a taxi, there are two options: either FEVE trains from Bilbao to Santander or a bus. There are three trains per day:
By sea: There are two sailings a week
between Plymouth
(UK) and Santander, each is a 24-hour cruise operated by Brittany
Ferries. See their website for schedule and fares.

By train: Several daily connections from Madrid, operated by RENFE and trains from Bilbao and Oviedo, operated by FEVE.
By bus: All buses arrive at the Estación de Autobuses.
International buses, e.g. from Brussels, London, Paris, Zürich and Prague) are operated by ALSA, phone (34) 902 42 22 42 or (34) 942 22 16 85.
Extensive number of national bus connections, operated by ALSA, Enatcar, Turytrans and Continental Auto (phone (34) 942 22 53 18).
By car: If you drive your own car or a rented car, you can arrive at Santander
Don't forget to advise your hotel if you plan to arrive late! |
Moving around:
The city has a network of buses: check out the municipal website for routes
and timetable. The taxi service is also good. Standard fares between any
two points in the city are around 6 Euros.
An annotated map of Santander (4 Mbytes) displays all the essential landmarks: the site of the conference, hotels etc.
Click for maps of Spain, Cantabria and the Santander city and campus. An interactive street guide is available.
Check out the municipal website for more maps and further information.
We have reserved a block of rooms at Hotel Santemar at the cost of 74 Euros per day for single room and 90 Euros for a double room (breakfast included). The hotel is about 15 mins (walking) from the venue of the conference.
Both Hotel Santemar and Hotel Chiqui, as well as the Las Brisas apartments, are full and, at this late stage, we have no `global' arrangements for the accommodation of late participants. Unless you've already done so, you'll have to arrange your own accommodation, e.g. at this website. |
The conference is hosted by the Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales y Telecomunicaciones (ETSIIT).
