Workshop on the
Complexity of Equation Solving and Algebra
October 11-15, 1999, Hong Kong
Purpose and Themes.
Equation solving is at the core of several problems in science and
technology. Understanding the complexity of different forms of
equation solving is a key issue which has attracted the attention of
mathematicians and computer scientists in the last few years. The
purpose of this workshop is to bring together experts in these fields to
discuss this issue. The
Workshop focused on the following problems:
- algebraic complexity and lower bounds,
- structural aspects of complexity,
- complexity and condition, and
- symbolic and numeric equation solving.
Plenary Speakers. The Workshop will include plenary
talks by the following (tentative):
- Felipe Cucker, City University of Hong Kong
- Marc Giusti, École Polytéchnique, Paris
- Pascal Koiran, E.N.S., Lyon
- Teresa Krick, Universidad de Buenos Aires
- Luis Miguel Pardo, Universidad de Santander
- Jim Renegar, Cornell University
- Marie-Françoise Roy, Université de
Rennes
- Mike Shub, IBM Yorktown Heights
- Hava Siegelmann, Technion, Haifa
- Steve Smale, City University of Hong Kong
