Biography

Holly Houliston is a PhD student in the C-CLEAR Doctoral Training Programme. Her research interests include the use of remote surveying techniques to study marine mammals and the application of artificial intelligence to analyse remote sensing and acoustic data. Her current research uses very high-resolution satellite imagery to study baleen whales from space. She is developing deep learning models to automate the detection of whales in satellite imagery. Her research takes place at the British Antarctic Survey and University of Cambridge under the supervision of Peter Fretwell, Jen Jackson and Carola-Bibiane Schönlieb. Holly works with the Cambridge Image Analysis Group in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. In addition, Holly is a member of the Wildlife from Space Team, Ecosystems Group and Artificial Intelligence Lab at British Antarctic Survey.
