Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Starting from a period that has been discussed in the Brill-Noether-translation workshops, esp. the fact that spaces curves do not figure in the report by Brill and Noether, the talk will set out on a sequence of events, which give a surprising, political twist to the way in which the nascent algebraic geometry of the 19th century had to be rewritten into current mathematics.
